Graphic Error
Everytime I enter specific areas, such as explorable errors in vabbi, rata sum, and several dungeons such as the ooze pit, a message saying that an unrecoverable graphics driver has occured, shutting down the game. As this happens in some fairly important areas, I was wondering if there were any known remedies for this besides getting a new graphics card. I currently have an Intel graphics card (i think). I'd appreciate all the help I can get!

I've got an Intel 855GME (which is unsupported by anet) and I get the same issues. If your card is unsupported like mine is, then you aren't going to get all that much help.
You can see if running the game with -dx8 -noshaders fixes the problem for you, but if your card is the same/similar to mine then there is no way to fix this problem.

The specific areas were listed in his post. If he experiences what I have then pretty much all of prophecies plays alright, factions works but is a little slow, one or two areas of nightfall cause a crash, and half a dozen areas of GWEN lead to a graphics error.

The thing is, ArenaNet don't support Intel integrated graphics card chipsets, but it doesn't neccessarily mean it won't play.
Read the link I referred you too.

Supported or not, if the graphic card is new enough (meaning more adjusted to the newer games and its technology) it will play the game.
This same problem happened to me on my older laptop. I had no problems playing proph and factions (although sometimes I experienced alot of lag). But when i started on Nightfall i got that same message. Anet support investigated this and told me that the engine used by the Nightfall game requires more input from the graphic cards then from the other 2 chapters.
There were 2 solutions:
1/ abandon the game and my character -> no way
2/ get a new pc/graphic card

Has anyone tried forcing a older version of directX?
NF and GW:EN use a newer version.

Those areas are apparently coded to use DirectX 9.0 rendering technologies that your graphics hardware (its not a card, by the way, its soldered into your motherboard) is incapable of dealing with. Use the -dx8 -noshaders workaround that was mentioned, or find a fully dx9-compatible dedicated video card. This is a known, Anet-acknowledged issue that I have seen mentioned and reported all over the place. Most Intel graphics solutions are completely unsupported in most modern games for this very reason.

i have the same graphic card and the same error in certain pve areas (ie rata sun, a dungeon in charr's homeland, central transfer chamber ><, few maps in vabbi, a map near end game of NF)... i reinstalled my vid card but i still get the same error because gw is trying to use directX functions that my graphic card cannot support. so i found a graphic program from a forum that can fix it.
since it's a not an official gw program... if you want u can pm me and i will give the link

After reading Tea Girl's post I was able to find a program called 3D-Analyze that emulates TnL and therefore finally allowed me to get my monk out of Rata Sum.
Not an ideal way of playing the game, but it is probably considered to be in the same category as people using texmod to modify in-game textures.
